[EU] CERV Programme Calls on Promotion of Citizens’ Engagement and Participation in EU Democratic Life Launched
The EU's Citizens, Equality, Rights and Values Programme (CERV) was launched in 2021 and aims to support and develop open, rights-based, democratic, equal and inclusive societies based on the rule of law.
One of the pillars of the CERV Programme is the focus on the promotion of citizens’ engagement and participation in the democratic life of the EU. The Commission has launched a number of calls under this pillar, which also offer opportunities for universities. These calls include:
Citizens’ engagement and participation:
This call aims to enable people to participate in the EU policymaking process and to contribute to the democratic and civic life of the EU. Projects should focus on one of three priorities: (1) promoting exchanges on future EU policy priorities and challenges, (2) countering disinformation, information manipulation and interference in the democratic debate, and (3) promoting citizens’ active engagement and democratic participation. Activities can, among others, relate to the development of educational materials or toolkits and the provision of training. A project's duration should range between 12 and 24 months. The minimum grant amount is €75.000.
- The call opened on 15 January and closes on 29 April 2025.
Rights of the child and children’s participation:
This call aims to fund projects supporting, advancing and implementing comprehensive policies to protect and promote the rights of the child, including the right to participate. Projects should focus on one of three priorities: (1) children’s rights in the digital age, (2) children’s engagement and participation, (3) embedding a rights of the child perspective in actions at national and local level. Activities can, among others, relate to the development of educational tools and the provision of training. A project's duration should range between 12 and 24 months. The minimum grant amount is €200.000
- The call opened on 16 January and closes on 29 April 2025.
European Remembrance
This forthcoming call will support projects aimed at commemorating defining events in modern European history, including the causes and consequences of authoritarian and totalitarian regimes, slavery and colonialism, and the Holocaust. Projects should also raise awareness among European citizens of their common history, culture, cultural heritage and values.
- The call is provisionally expected to be published soon, and to be formally launched in February, with an expected deadline in June 2025.
Additional Calls and Further Information
The CERV Programme also offers other possibilities in different calls. More information about the CERV Programme and the aforementioned and other calls can be found on the European Commission’s webpage, in the latest CERV Work Programme, or on the EU Funding & Tenders Portal.
