Book: how to renew the loan term

The standard loan period for books borrowed from Ghent University libraries is four weeks. However, exceptions may apply depending on the faculty (see regulations).

You can renew a loan yourself at the end of the loan period by logging into the library catalogue

  • when you renew, the end of the loan period is extended by 4 weeks
  • this is only possible as long as the maximum period of 4 loan periods has not yet been reached
  • if you do this in time (no later than 14 days after the end of the current loan period)
  • if the book has not been reserved by someone else in the meantime

When you borrow a book from a library outside of Ghent University (through ILL or interlibrary loan), the standard loan term is usually three weeks. However, the loan term depends on the library of origin. An ILL book can be renewed once, if the library of origin agrees to this. To renew an ILL book, you can contact the library where you picked up the ILL book or lib.docu@ugent.be.
